Universities need access to advanced AI tools and modern technologies, empowering lab assistants, researchers, data scientists, staff, and students to explore data collections and develop emerging AI models through practical experience.
Today’s undergraduate and graduate students will soon join a workforce reshaped, in every way, by artificial intelligence (AI). How do you train and prepare the next generation of AI-ready talent?
Advanced AI technologies are typically so complex and expensive that only large corporations can afford to provide access, creating a major barrier for academic institutions of higher learning.
Students need rigorous, real-world AI training to thrive in an increasingly AI-driven professional landscape. With Penguin Solutions, the tools and technology are now within reach.
We partnered with NVIDIA® to create the Georgia Tech AI Makerspace, an innovative AI supercomputer designed for hands-on student learning. This unique initiative provides students with access to advanced AI tools and technologies, empowering them to explore and develop emerging AI models through practical experience.
The AI Makerspace expands Georgia Tech’s foundational, theory-focused AI curriculum by offering students a hands-on platform to tackle real-world AI challenges, develop advanced applications, and present their AI-driven ideas at scale.
In 2026, Georgia Tech plans to set up the AI Makerspace Omniverse, a sandbox for augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR). The education and research hub is based on NVIDIA Omniverse, a platform for connecting and developing 3D tools and applications and will be available to all students.
Our comprehensive solution approach features tightly integrated, end-to-end compute, data management, networking, software, and infrastructure, providing the AI cluster with the ability to process intense amounts of data with ultra-low latency.
Departments across academic institutions are devouring computing power to perform their research. Finding ways to balance the need for outstanding compute performance against operational realities is critical.
Grant-driven deployment cycles, constrained budgets, minimal in-house expertise, security policies, and data privacy and protection regulatory requirements including lifecycle management require the right implementation partner.
Penguin Solutions uses its expertise with AI infrastructure to provide the most cost-effective and proven solutions available—without sacrificing performance.
We design, build, deploy, and manage AI and HPC implementations according to your specific performance and budgetary needs. From data collection and research analysis complexities to navigating ever-changing federal and state regulatory requirements, we will be your trusted partner.
Having proven HPC deployments in academic environments with widely varying workloads, being selected to provide a cloud-based model for compute resources at IU addressed many departments competing for resources and very limited budgets for capital expenses.
This partnership provides academic institutions with a flexible cloud-based resource allocation for their researchers. At the same time, presenting an opportunity for IT departments to create an ongoing revenue stream by offering researchers from other schools access to their cloud.
Participating schools in various academic on-demand HPC cloud implementation models included the California Institute for Technology, University of Delaware, Memphis University, the University of Virginia, the University of California, Berkeley, and the University of Michigan.
Selected to deliver an energy-efficient, high-performance computing cluster to the University of Alaska Fairbanks, the cluster named "Chinook" will be primarily used by UA researchers and collaborators.
While the compute capabilities can be used by anyone in the UA system, the cluster will help researchers solve questions about climatic variability in Alaska and compute more accurate estimates of ice loss and sea level rises with higher-resolution ice sheet modeling.
Chinook could also be used for research in bioinformatics, biogeochemical modeling, and studies involving the analysis of radio signals passing through the ionosphere.
A new heterogeneous cluster at the University of Pittsburgh, used by researchers in multiple departments, is operated by the University of Pittsburgh's Center for Simulation and Modeling (SAM); the hardware and operating systems are maintained and monitored for reliability, performance and security by Computing Services and Systems Development (CSSD), the University's central IT organization.
Research conducted at the University of Pittsburgh using the new Penguin cluster ranges from understanding mechanisms of protein misfolding to understanding the mechanisms of CO₂ capture and sequestration.
Penguin Solutions was assigned a procurement contract by the University of Virginia on behalf of Virginia Association of State College and University Purchasing Professionals (VASCUPP) to sell hardware, software and services to member institutions.
The nine colleges and universities participating in VASCUPP include: the College of William and Mary, George Mason University, James Madison University, Old Dominion University, Radford University, Virginia Commonwealth University, Virginia Military Institute, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, and the University of Virginia.
All of these academic institutions collaborate on aspects of procurement for higher education to leverage economies of scale, while ensuring that their suppliers meet the highest quality standards.
OriginAI® is an AI factory infrastructure solution built upon proven, pre-defined AI architectures that scale from hundreds to more than 16,000 GPU clusters. OriginAI integrates these validated technologies with Penguin’s intelligent, intuitive cluster management software and expert services.
Simplify the deployment and management of AI clusters to quickly realize high productivity. Bare-metal hardware, network, and software resources are transformed into high-performance cluster environments, streamlining administration complexity, and optimizing resource availability.
Penguin Solutions has designed and deployed large NVIDIA DGX clusters, with high-speed NVIDIA InfiniBand networking and optimized storage. We have relationships and expertise with most storage vendors, allowing us to provide bespoke solutions for every customer.
