Conformal coating on DDR5 RDIMMs provides a protective barrier against environmental threats such as oxidation making them particularly suited for liquid immersion cooling systems, which are gaining popularity for their efficiency and sustainability benefits.

As data centers face increasing demands for performance and energy efficiency, liquid immersion cooling has emerged as a promising solution offering superior heat dissipation compared to traditional air cooling, allowing for higher density computing and improved energy efficiency.

However, this advancement also presents unique challenges for electronic components requiring protective conformal coating commonly used to shield electronics from harmful environmental conditions like moisture, thermal shock, static, vibration, and contamination. Polyurethane is often used because of its advantages in moisture, abrasion and chemical resistance.

Conformal coating material is best applied using a spray coating with a thin, uniform layer sprayed onto the surface of both sides of the memory module. Due to its precise application, this method of spraying is preferred in comparison to other methods such as dipping and brushing. This thin polymeric film then conforms to the printed circuit board, providing comprehensive protection for the module’s components.
